MJ Cooper is based in Columbus Ohio and is an artist who is self-taught. MJ Cooper has been painting since the age of eleven. Suffering from residual side effects from viral meningitis, painting is therapeutic for the artist. The lasting side effects are visual, cognitive, neurological and audible impairments. MJ regained vision after losing it for six months due severe photophobia, another side effect of meningitis. Through physical impairments MJ’s feelings are expressed through painting. Every painting is a result of meditation. MJ’s paintings have been in the Art Possible Ohio Art Tour 2020, Franklin County Treasures Office Art Exhibit, Art on Permanent Display at The Cleveland Clinic Pain Management Clinic , Art on Permanent Display at SEIU KY/WV/OH Headquarters, Ohio Congressional 3rd District Art Show 2020 and is a featured artist on Hansford and Sons Gallery Global Emerging Artist platform on-line. Through the artist’s pain and struggles, beautiful art has been created. It gives hope and speaks to perseverance.
